How’s that $7.40 per week New York Times subscription looking about now? According to the Times columnist and Nobel Prize laureate, the way to turn this economy around quickly is an alien invasion. Okay, you can stop laughing now; this guy is serious.
The New York Times has been on a precipitous slide for years, so sooner or later it was due to fall off the edge; apparently Krugman decided Sunday was a good day to give the fading newspaper a strong push.
Only the most left-wing minds pay any attention to Krugman, who has repeatedly said the Obama stimulus was far too small and a second stimulus is necessary. Seeing the political winds, Krugman seems to be changing track and is reaching out to E.T. Conservatives have long known that Krugman’s marbles were rolling away, so this most recent foolish talk won’t stir many on the right.
Krugman appeared on Fareed Zakaria’s GPS program on CNN Sunday morning, speculating about what would happen if aliens landed on earth and attacked us:
“If we discovered that space aliens were planning to attack, and we needed a massive build-up to counter the space alien threat, and inflation and budget deficits took secondary place to that, this slump would be over in 18 months,” Krugman said, referencing an episode of The Twilight Show in which an alien threat was manufactured to bring about world peace.
What if a Chevy Camaro could transform into a massive robot? What if a kid could talk to dead people? What if you could travel back in time and redo your vote in 2008 or the Nobel committee could reconsider Krugman’s prize?
Krugman hasn’t had a useful thing to say in over a decade, so why does he show up on the Sunday morning shows? The answer is quite simple: Krugman is an abashed Liberal, with views that are so far from the mainstream that the left-wing dominated press can’t get enough of him. Perhaps the next time he shows up to expose the inner workings of his mind he’ll expose the fact that he’s Batman.
You know Krugman is a liberal darling when his alien comments are being defended by the Huffington Post. While those of us that haven’t spent any time on a flying saucer or that weren’t French royalty in a prior life realize that Krugman tenuous grasp on reality may have finally broken free, the Liberals feel obligated to come to his defense. One of the characteristics of the liberal/progressive crowd you have to admire is their ability to devise a supporting argument for the most inane ideas.
Krugman’s fantasy is based on the warped theory that a world-wide crisis, demanding governments to spend indiscriminately would spur a economic recovery akin to World War II. Krugman is right in the hypothesis that if the government suddenly was spending trillions of dollars to build lasers and space missiles to fight off the aliens private companies that build lasers and other weapon systems would see a huge boost in revenue. What Krugman and the government-centric economists always fail to acknowledge is that every massive government incursion into the private economy is followed by a massive economic hangover. Does he even realize that nearly 70 years after the war we’re still paying off some of the debt? Has there ever been a time since World War II that the U.S. national debt was zero? No.
Speaking of lasers, it’s probably time we cut off all any remaining spending on Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative. We don’t need a space-based Star Wars weapon system when all we need to do to destroy our enemies is export some of our greatest minds, like Krugman. Krugman’s brain is akin to Kryptonite, it’s the only substance capable of obliterating even Superman.
Note to The New York Times, if you’re going to keep Krugman around you may wish to consider changing your tagline to: “All the nuts unfit to print.”
