What’s wrong with this picture? Why would students from the University of Wisconsin protest at a Special Olympics ceremony? Is there no depths to which these radicals will not sink to show their unhappiness with Gov. Scott Walker?
Students from the University of Wisconsin, dressed in T-Shirts and zombie makeup interrupted a ceremony between the Governor and Special Olympics athletes in front of the state Capitol Wednesday. The protestors positioned themselves between the governor and the athletes he was paying tribute to. The T-shirts were emblazoned with the phrase, “Students are as good as dead.”
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has been on an all-out attack of the Governor since the start of the fight over state employee union rights and the extended demonstrations which took place at the state Capitol. The protestors left the Capitol and the surrounding grounds with over a million dollars in clean up costs following three weeks of protests while state Senate Democrats fled to Illinois in an attempt to stop a vote on the bill. Ultimately the vote proceeded and the bill was signed into law by the Governor and continues to be matter of legal wrangling, likely to be addressed by the state’s Supreme Court in the near future.
The protests this week do not appear to be related to the union law, but rather based on another law requiring a new voter ID that students say will make it harder for them to vote. The United Council of UW Students provided the zombie makeup and T-shirts, yet is claiming no connection to the protest at the Special Olympics. And why would they? Disrupting an event involving Special Olympians is another example of how liberals believe their needs take precedence over everyone else’s.
Governor Walker handled the distraction with great skill, not allowing the protesters to distract him. In his remarks Walker congratulated the athletes, and brought the focus back to purpose of the event.
“The Special Olympics is about the cheer and the joy and the passion the attorney general was just talking about of our Special Olympians. That’s what the focus should be on. That’s exactly what we’re talking about today.”
SEIU’s involvement in the protest becomes especially suspicious with both the United Council’s statement and the fact that SEIU protestors were present at Wednesday’s ceremony holding signs addressing the union issue. One sign read, “Don’t piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining.”
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which organized the spring protests has not commented on the protest.
It’s sad to think that liberals could be so shallow as to use an event meant to honor Special Olympians to make a political point. There’s a time and a place to vent your displeasure with the actions of your government; this is not one of them. How small must your mind be, and how shallow your character, to use an event for challenged athletes for your own purpose. You are disgusting people.
