It was revealed this past week that a minor flaw in the Obamacare program may grant as many as three million middle-class Americans access to free health care via Medicaid, a program designed to provide health care to those below the poverty level.
Senator John Barrasso. a surgeon from Wyoming, said, “It’s gonna cost about $450 billion over 10 years. Who’s gonna pay for that – the taxpayers, people who are paying their bills every day.”
During the health care debate, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi offered up the famous words, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” It now appears she was spot-on. The “gotchas” in the bill have turned up left and right.
Even Democrats can’t hide from some of the hideous features of this law that have been uncovered. Adding three million Medicaid enrollees will crush the ailing program and the Dems are realizing there’s much to this law that they didn’t understand when they supported it.
One of the most Liberal members of congress, Chris Van Hollen of Maryland admitted, “I do think that between now and 2014, sooner rather than later, we should go back and take another look at this.” Van Hollen also exposed the fact that many Democrats were aware of this fact when the law was being drafted, yet he and the Democrat leadership kept quiet on this minor defect.
The Chief Actuary for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Richard S. Foster, says the potential cost drain keeps him up at night. “I don’t generally comment on the pros or cons of policy, but that just doesn’t make sense.”
Congressman Tim Huelskamp, R-Kan., is leading a group of GOP lawmakers that are pursuing the issue of waivers. The group has requested that Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius explain why certain businesses were granted waivers and how the decision was made. “If Obamacare is so good, if it is so good, why all the waivers?” Huelskamp asked.
Last Friday the Obama administration stated that waivers will only be considered up till September 22nd of this year.
