In President Obama’s speech to a joint session of Congress he said, “Pass this jobs bill, and thousands of teachers in every state will go back to work.” The president assumes that there are thousands of teachers that should go back to work despite limited state budgets and some who have no business in a classroom; a Fort Worth, Texas teacher demonstrated the latter this week.
Dakota Ary, a 14 year-old Fort Worth honors student was sent to the principal’s office and punished for telling a classmate that he believes homosexuality is wrong. He didn’t get up in front of the class and give a personal appraisal of anyone’s lifestyle, he only turned to a friend and said, “I am a Christian and being homosexual is wrong.”
Dakota’s teacher overheard the comment and lost it. The teacher started yelling and told Dakota he was going to write him an infraction and sent him to the office.
Fortunately for Dakota his mother wasn’t about to stand by while his right to express his opinion to a friend was denied by a teacher demonstrating how life would be without the freedom of speech. His mother met with her attorney and the school retracted the two-day suspension so Dakota would be allowed to play in an upcoming football game.
Matt Krause, an attorney with the Liberty Counsel told Fox News Radio, “They’ve righted all the wrongs. This should have no lasting effect on his academic or personal record going forward.” Krause told the school, “He should never have been suspended for exercising his Constitutional rights,” adding, “The principal is sincere in trying to do the right thing and hopefully they will tell the teacher, ‘Do not do that anymore.’ He won’t be pushing his agenda.”
Krause labeled the incident “mind-blowing” and said the teacher had frequently brought homosexuality into ninth grade classroom discussions. “There has been a history with this teacher in the class regarding homosexual topics. The teacher had posted a picture of two men kissing on a wall that offended some of the students.”
The teacher had instructed the students that homosexuality is happening all over the world and you need to accept the fact it is just part of our culture now.
Why would any teacher in a public school be discussing anyone’s sexual preferences? Krause was right, it is mind-blowing.
Dakota’s mother told Fox she believes the teacher should apologize; it’s hard to dispute her line of reasoning. “He should never have been punished,” she said, “He didn’t disrupt the class. He wasn’t threatening. He wasn’t hostile. He made a comment to his friend and the teacher overheard it.”
“My son knows people that are homosexual,” she said. “He’s not saying, ‘I don’t like you.’ He’s saying, ‘I’m a Christian and I believe that being that way is wrong.’”
School leaders told Dakota that in the future he should be careful when and where he talks about his opposition to homosexuality – suggesting that he talk about such matters in the hallway instead of the classroom.
This is what we need to increase our national debt to fund.; narrow-minded public school teachers who rather than instruct on the precious nature of the freedom of speech use our tax dollars to espouse their own views on issues that have no business in our schools.
Liberty Counsel will be closely monitoring the situation to make sure there is no future retaliation against Dakota.
Dakota’s mother told him, “Treat this teacher with respect. He is your elder. He is your teacher. What his beliefs are or what they are not – outside the school is none of our business.”
Perhaps Dakota’s teacher should be replaced by his mother. In the meantime this is but a sampling of what goes on in the public school system powered by a liberal need to silence any views which run in opposition to their own.
