Be honest. When you were a kid did you ever make a gun gesture with your thumb and index finger? You know, like playing cops and robbers, or cowboys and Indians? If you’re male and you say no, you’re not being honest. That’s what kids do; they play. Apparently in Maryland a vivid imagination is a violation of school rules.
Last month a 6-year-old boy was suspended from a Montgomery County school for making a gun gesture with his hand and saying “pow” – the family fought back and got the suspension purge from the first-grader’s records.
Rodney Lynch was sent home and suspended because the school said he “threatened to shoot” another student. The morons actually had the gall to enter that phrase in Lynch’s school records, perhaps because they were worried his finger might go off.
In a letter to Lynch’s parents, the vice principal of Roscoe R. Nix Elementary School said their son had been sent to the principal’s office three times on Dec. 20 for pretending his fingers were scissors and then a gun. After the third incident, he was suspended.
You do realize that tax dollars pay the salary of that vice principal, don’t you?
The lawyer for the Lynch family said, “There are Montgomery County school district regulations that say if you bring a gun or a knife onto campus, you’re suspended. There is no regulation that says if you point your finger or make a motion with your fist that says what gestures result in suspension.”
Lynch was reinstated to the school after the Christmas break and since then Rodney’s record has been purged to remove the ridiculous claim.
Now, only a few weeks hence, another Maryland school, this time in Talbot County, has suspended two 6 year-olds for bringing loaded fingers to school.
Surely not every person in the state of Maryland has lost their minds, but apparently the school systems in Maryland have slid off the political correctness cliff into sheer stupidity.
Be careful if you wave at one of your neighbors in Maryland; it could be considered a threat of violence.
