Obama gives not-so-silent nod to Michigan union violence

Oh how soon we forget about the Democrat’s calls for civility after the shooting of Arizona Representative Gabby Giffords in Tucson; but of course Ms. Giffords’ shooting didn’t pose a direct threat to the president’s party’s political cash-cow: the unions. Michigan’s adoption of “right-to-work” is terrifying to progressives.

In response to the Michigan legislature’s move towards right-to-work status the president made no plea for civil discourse; no argument against mob rule; no, very much the inverse, the president chose to travel to Michigan and fire up the union crowds by insisting that the Michigan lawmakers were simply attempting to cut their paychecks.

Following the president’s trip Michigan passed the law to change the state’s labor status which was quickly signed into law by the governor. Angry protests quickly turned from threats of violence to real brutality in the Michigan’s capital and in response the White House was…insert crickets chirping…zilch, zero, nada.

The Obama White House is the home of the double-standard. Conservatives like ex-governor of Alaska and 2008 vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, were chastised for the use of symbolism like “targeted states,” tearing down a tent filled with woman and senior citizens, while punching a television reporter, is A-okay with the president.

Michigan mob violence

Where was the match that lit the fuse that offered union leaders consent to transition from protest to bloodshed? Just listen to the words of a prominent member of the Michigan legislature Democratic state Rep. Douglas Geiss: “We’re going to pass something that will undo 100 years of labor relations, and there will be blood. There will be repercussions!”

In liberal parlance, civil discourse means talk to me nicely while I punch you in the face. Democrats can talk about streets filled with blood, but God forbid a Republican even dares use the phrase “lunatic.” What better example of lunacy could you find than a nation of laws standing still for violence against duly enacted laws?

The governor of Michigan must act against the union mobs and he must do so swiftly. Ignoring lawlessness is tantamount to acquiescence. While Michigan Gov. Snyder should be recognized for his courage to act in the face of union bullying, if he allows the mob mentality to continue unrestricted or lawbreaking to go unpunished, the shine will quickly tarnish.
